The Department of Social Development has made a call to business and communities to assist in the improvement of Early Childhood Development centres.
Social Development Minister, Bathabile Dlamini, and the National Development Agency launched the "Adopt an Early Childhood Development Campaign" portal in East London on Thursday.
The portal identifies and profiles indigent ECD sites exposing them to public and private donors.
Minister Dlamini says the provision of infrastructure at Early Childhood Development centres is not the responsibility of social development, but that of local government.
"Unfortunately at local government level there are many demands and we end up putting the issues of early child development at the periphery, so that is why as Social Development we are looking at other ways of ensuring that there are early childhood development centres in very poor areas" Dlamini said.
