Two people were killed in a head-on collision between a truck and a car on the N-2 at the Seven Fountains turn-off near Grahamstown in the early hours of Friday morning.
Provincial traffic spokesperson, Charles Bramwell says the accident happened at around 2-30am, and police are investigating a case of culpable homicide.
The accident happened about 30km from Grahamstown. It is alleged that the driver of a Toyota Corolla was travelling on the wrong side of the road and the truck then tried to avoid an accident by swerving to the right.
Bramwell says it was too late and he hit the vehicle. The driver of the car was killed on impact and trapped inside his vehicle. The passenger was critically injured and treated on the scene by paramedics, but unfortunately, the passenger died on the scene. A child, whose age is unknown at this stage, was also in the car and survived the accident. He was taken to a hospital.
The truck driver was unhurt.
Bramwell says the N-2 was closed for several hours.
