Kirkwood police have opened an inquest docket after a six-year-old boy drown in an irrigation canal.
Police spokesperson, Warrant Officer Basil Seekoei, says it is alleged that Stephen Tiervlei was with a friend on Tuesday when the incident happened.
He says the child was playing on the side of the canal wall when he lost balance and fell over.
Seekoei says his body was found further down stream near the local golf course.
