An East London family has been left traumatised after discovering the mutilated carcass of their 14-month old Siberian Husky, Misty.
Miekie Petzer from Kidds Beach told Algoa FM News they received a threat from a neighbouring farmer over the weekend
Petzer said the man was upset about his goats being killed and came to their home threatening to shoot their dogs.
She said she understood if the dog was trespassing but the manner in which Misty was killed was just plain cruel.
"I know the dogs trespass, fair enough if he wanted to shoot it, he could of shoot it, but why hang it up on the gate on the post? For everyone to see, my grandchild was hysterical. That is not a thing to do, it 's cruel. If he killed the dog or shot it, fair enough, tell us here is your dog, it was trespassing." said Petzer.
Police spokesperson, Captain Stephen Marais, confirmed a case of animal cruelty was opened at Kidds Beach Police Station.
Marais says the man was not arrested.
He says upon the investigation being completed a senior state prosecutor will decide whether the man will be tried in a court of law.
