Chamber calls on Nelson Mandela Bay to reconsider funding of a metro police force.

Organised business in Nelson Mandela Bay has called on the Municipality not to implement a proposed 1% hike to fund a Metro Police Force.

In an open letter to executive mayor, Benson Fihla on Tuesday, Chamber president Mandla Madwara and CEO, Kevin Hustler, called on him to apply his mind to an alternative solution that they say may exist within the budget process for the new financial year.

They say that they do not believe that the proposal of an additional one percent increase towards the funding of a Metro police force is a priority.

The Nelson Mandela Bay Business Chamber has instead called for strategic leadership that reflects an understanding of the socio-economic challenges faced by the citizens of this Metro to restore business confidence, and to encourage confidence in our city’s long-term growth.
