The Minister in the Presidency, Collins Chabane says young people are exploited in service delivery protests, because of their vulnerability.
Speaking at a Youth Day event in Port Elizabeth on Saturday, Chabane said young people should resist this exploitation, and rather focus on their education and uplifting their lives.
He said today's youth should honour the class of 1976 through positive words and deeds.
Earlier, Silvertown residents embarked on a service delivery protest outside the Wolfson stadium ahead of Chabane's speech. The residents claimed they were not informed about the Youth Day event.
Initially, President Jacob Zuma was to speak at the stadium, but pulled out to attend the G20 meeting in Mexico, which starts on Monday.
