Detectives in Thornhill, west of Port Elizabeth are looking for an unknown man who shot and killed a woman in the doorway of her house on Wednesday night.
Spokesperson Captain Gerda Swart says it is alleged that the man knocked on the victim's door at 10.30 pm on the pretence of selling cement.
The 36-year-old woman told the suspect she was not interested and closed the door as he walked away.
According to the victim's friends the man came back a few minutes later and knocked on the door again.
Swart says when the victim opened the door she was shot and died on the scene.
The name of the deceased will be released once she is formally identified.
