A section of the ceiling at the Shoprite Mall in Greenacres Shopping Centre in Port Elizabeth has collapsed.
The Sunday morning ceiling collapse has led to the closure of the affected section of the Mall as a result of shops being flooded.
However, the rest of the centre is open.
Greenacres centre manager, Brent Starr, says a security guard noticed a water leak in the ceiling at an ATM in the Shoprite Mall just before 5am.
"Minutes later a section of the ceiling collapsed as a result water flooded through the Greenacres Shopping Centre. The water has affected a number of stores in the immediate vicinity of Greenacres," he said.
"We will be operational this morning," Starr said.
The Shoprite Mall is managed separately from Greenacres.
Algoa FM News has learnt that it may be at least 48 hours before debris is cleared and the businesses ready to operated again. Among those affected are Ok Furniture, Home Industries and African Bank and Capitec Bank.
