CCTV still on cards for notorius EL street

The Buffalo City Metro says the tender for CCTV cameras to be installed in crime hotspots is still in the process of being awarded.

On Saturday, police found the body of an unidentified woman in Buffalo Street, an area the mayor has identified as a cause for concern.

During her state of the Metro address in June, mayor Zukiswa Ncitha, identified Buffalo Street as one of the problematic areas where CCTV cameras are going to be installed.

She allocated R1.6m for this.

However, Buffalo City spokesperson Thandy Matebese says the tender has not yet been awarded. He says they're hoping to have the CCTV cameras up and running before the festive season.

Meanwhile, police have not yet identified the woman who was found murdered in the usually busy street.

The motive for her murder is not known and no suspects have been arrested as yet.
