Knysna Ward 10 Councillor and Deputy Mayor Peter Myers handed over R315 000 to the Knysna CCTV (KCCTV) Project chair, Mike Elliot on Tuesday, 9 May for a further 12 Closed Circuit TV (CCTV) cameras to be used within the Knysna Central Business District (CBD).
The allocation of these funds was decided upon by the Ward 10 Committee Members, bringing up the totals of CCTV's within Knysna's CBD to 16 since the project was launched in September 2016.
Myers explained that the decision to hand the funds to this project was a joint one. “The Ward 10 Committee members decided that this would be a good project to spend the ward allocation budget and I fully supported this decision.
“Safety and security of our community is one of our priorities. The success of the pilot 4 CCTV's inspired us to add the extra 12. The CCTV Project has been doing well since its launch. I am confident that the additional 12 cameras will enhance safety and be of great value to this project.
“I am happy that the Ward 10 Committee has provided funding for such an important project. A project that stands to benefits everyone within our community. Mike and his team do such great work and I am pleased that we managed to assist them with much needed support.”
Elliot expressed excitement about these additional cameras. “I am ecstatic about getting funding for 12 more CCTV cameras. This will definitely help us in reaching our ultimate objective of setting up a dedicated control room where incidents can be monitored and responded to. I can't express how grateful the KCCTV project is to Ward 10 Committee members and Cllr Myers.”
The Knysna CCTV project is a non-profit organisation whose main aim objective is to conduct or promote the use of CCTV cameras, networking and monitoring and other security devices in efforts to promote the protection and safety of the general public within greater Knysna.
