The senior state prosecutor in East London has temporarily withdrawn the case against the 30-year-old man who made serious allegations against Eastern Cape Premier, Oscar Mabuyane, and Deputy Chief Justice, Raymond Zondo.
Hawks Eastern Cape spokesperson, Captain Yolisa Mgolodela, said the matter was withdrawn for further investigation in the East London Magistrate's Court on Thursday.
She said the accused, who has not been named because he has not yet been charged, would be released.
The man was arrested in Johannesburg on perjury charges, following a nearly yearlong search.
Mgolodela said he had reported cases of alleged corruption in Johannesburg and East London against Deputy Chief Justice and the Premier of the Eastern Cape.
“The suspect was arrested on Wednesday by the Hawks East London-based Serious Corruption Investigation team of the Hawks in a joint collaboration with their Head Office team.
Mgolodela said there were some outstanding matters that needed to be taken care of before the charge sheet was signed off.
