Car hijacker nabbed in ECape

KING WILLIAM’S TOWN, September 17 (ANA) – Butterworth police have arrested a 32-year-old man for alleged car hijacking, Eastern Cape police said on Sunday.

The suspect was arrested in the Butterworth CBD early on Sunday morning, Captain Jackson Manatha said.

It was alleged that a 46-year-old man offered a lift to the suspect at about 5.45am at Zitulele township, Butterworth.

“It is not clear where the two were going to. Once the suspect was inside the sedan car he demanded the car keys from the owner. He overpowered him and successfully hijacked the car valued [at] about R180,000.”

The suspect was arrested soon afterwards and would appear in the Butterworth Magistrate’s Court on Monday on a charge of car hijacking, Manatha said.
