Caltex Eastern Cape Marketer has re-opened George Motors in Kwazakhele, making it its biggest investment in Port Elizabeth.
The R15 million service station was officially opened on Wednesday, across the road from its previous site.
Owner André Rademan said the new investment had not only contributed to the local economy, but had also saved more than a dozen jobs in the process.
He said on top of the 17 jobs retained, they've also employed six more people.
"As the business grows, we obviously have to employ more people," Rademan said
Caltex Eastern Cape Marketer CEO, Clive Berlyn, said big investments were important at a time when South Africa was going through the first stages of a great depression.
"We need to realise that what we are doing here is not for ourselves, it's for generations to come. We need to create stability, we need to create job opportunities, we need to create entrepreneurial opportunities and create a platform or an environment which encourages other people to develop as entrepreneurs," Berlyn concluded.
