Eastern Cape local government MEC Mlibo Qoboshiyane says Mhlontlo municipality should suspend a senior official pending disciplinary proceedings against him for alleged fraud.
The municipality's boundaries include Qumbu and Tsolo.
The local authority has asked Qoboshiyane to investigate the appointment of Themba Spampoel as its deputy director of supply chain management.
An investigation found that Spampoel did not meet the necessary requirements for the job and had presented a fraudulent payslip.
Spampoel's original personnel file could also not be found.
