Calls for Northern Areas School Governing Body Forum to be re-structured

Port Elizabeth schools situated in Schauderville and Korsten say that the School Governing Body forum of the entire Northern areas needs to be re-structured.

At a meeting with principals and parents on Wednesday, SGB Chairperson of Frank Joubert Primary School, Isaac Barendse, says that re-structuring needs to take place as some schools in the Northern areas felt like they were not being represented.

Schools in Schauderville, Korsten and Helenvale closed their doors on Wednesday morning in protest against teacher shortages.

Barendse says the community is sick and tired of lies and arrogance on the part of The Eastern Cape Department of Education

He says to only fill vacant teacher posts by the 31st of December would be too late

"The community is sick and tired of the lies and the arrogance of some of the department officials when they speak to principals with regards to teachers. They said they have made the appointments, but it never materialised up until now.  We have a problem in our area where classrooms have no teachers. The community of Schauderville and Korsten have made up their minds, unless they fill the positions, the schools will be closed indefinitely." says Barendse.

A meeting will be held on Thursday with all SGB representatives from the Northern areas to discuss re-structuring. A meeting is also scheduled to take place with the department's district director, Dr Nyathi Ntsiko.
