Gqeberha's K9 unit patrol dogs, Bentley and Mufasa have assisted in arresting three suspected cable thieves at the Chief Dawid Stuurman International Airport.
Police spokesperson, Captain Sandra Janse Van Rensburg, said members arrived at the airport after following up on information at about 13h00 on Tuesday.
On arrival, members spotted 10 suspects who were digging a trench to remove the electric cables.
Janse Van Rensburg said when they saw the police, they downed their tools and scattered in different directions.
They were repeatedly warned to stop and when they did not adhere the patrol dogs assisted in apprehending them.
She says they were detained on charges relating to the Criminal Matters Amendment Act - damage to essential infrastructure.
Janse Van Rensburg said spades, pickaxes, a panga, knives, cables, scissors, and backpacks were confiscated.
The suspects aged between 24 and 28 are expected to appear in court soon to face a charge relating to the Criminal Matters Amendment Act of damaging infrastructure.
Earlier this month, K9 Max and his handler Sergeant Adriaan Oosthuizen apprehended a lone suspect, also at the Airport, who was busy stealing cables that caused damage to the power supply at the Airport.
