Uitenhage police are investigating a case of business robbery, after a security guard was overpowered by a group of about 12 men armed with pangas in the early hours of Friday morning
Warrant Officer Gerda Swart says the suspects tied up the victim, and broke into premises in Bell Street in the town's industrial area.
She says the robbers fled with computers and other items.
Swart says police members patrolling the area at around 1am, spotted the security guard and assisted him.
No arrests have yet been made, and detectives are following up various leads.
Meanwhile, police opened a culpable homicide docket, after a Uitenhage man was killed in an accident in Caledon street - also in the early hours of Friday.
Swart says the 31-year old driver of a Toyota lost control of his vehicle and crashed into other parked vehicles.
He died at the scence while three other people were rushed to hospital with serious injuries.
