Several people were hurt but miraculously no one was killed when a City to City Bus overturned on the N2 near Berlin between East London and King William's town at about five o'clock on Friday morning.
It was alleged that the driver fell asleep and lost control.
The bus had been retrieved by breakdown services and the road was open to traffic.
Provincial Traffic deputy director Charles Bramwell said the City to City Bus was en route from Durban to Cape Town when the accident happened.
There were two drivers on the bus and they confirmed that they switched driving in Umtata
Bramwell said 30 passengers sustained scratches and bruises, and three sustained slight injuries.
Two passengers were taken to hospital with serious injuries.
