The Buffalo City Metro says it smart metering project has improved revenue and reduced queries on accounts to less than 10 percent since its rollout three years ago.
It says since the project started, statistics showed that the City's electricity losses had dropped from 22.2% to 18% at the end of February 2022.
The municipality says this was mostly due to correct monthly billing and recovery of lost or stolen revenue.
It says the cutting-edge technology program has seen billing inquiries reduced down to 10 percent.
All meters (both water and electricity) have to be changed to smart meters by November 2024.
