Buffalo City receives millions of rands for public transport infrastructure


Buffalo City has received R274.5 million as a Public Transport Infrastructure and Systems Grant over the past four financial years but spent just R19.9 million, according to Transport Minister Dipuo Peters.

Replying to a written question in the National Assembly, the Minister said unfortunately, East London has delayed for over four years due to administrative hold ups, and subsequently a legal challenge to its procurement of a consortium to do the detailed planning and design.

Peters said that currently Buffalo City was is discussions with National Treasury with regard to appealing the High Court decision to award the tender to the second placed bidder, adding that her department would liaise with National Treasury with regard to a speedy resolution to the matter.

Peters added that Nelson Mandela Bay has received R1.13 billion over the past four financial years as a Public Transport Infrastructure Grant and spent R748.3 million of the allocation.
