Buffalo City Metro has issued a warning to beachgoers who take to the water but do not know how to swim, to be alert and exercise extra caution.
This, after another fatality at the Eastern Beach on Saturday afternoon, bringing the number of drownings last week alone to three.
The Metro says in a statement Saturday's incident took place outside the demarcated swimming area, and even though lifeguards managed to get the adult male out of the surf, he died during resuscitation efforts.
On Friday, two school children, aged 13 and 14, drowned at Eastern Beach, while Municipal lifeguards managed to save four others who were struggling in the water.
The Municipality says it is increasing the number of additional lifeguards by 42 for the expected busy festive season.
