Buffalo City Municipality has announced the appointment of Andile Sihlahla as the metro's new municipal manager.
Buffalo City has been without a permanent City Manager for a large part of 2016 and 2017 following the axing of Andile Fani who was found guilty in a disciplinary hearing related to a construction tender.
Addressing the media on Tuesday, mayor Pakati said that Sihlahla has extensive experience in various fields.
"Academically he hold two distinct qualifications from the University of Fort Hare, where graduated with BJuris and LLB. He has experience directing properties, estate, legal advice and administration in Gauteng's Ekurhuleni Metro between 2010 and 1014," Pakati said.
"He was also the Transformation manager for Cogta in Gauteng, where he led the merger between Randfontein and Westonaria," he added.
Sihlahla, a former municipal manager of Great Kei Municipality, says the role of the city administration is very clear in law.
He said it's critical that everyone understood this distinction between the role of the administration and that of politicians.
"If there is a failure to appreciate that distinction then there is a problem. However, we have got a responsibility, as management, to explain and clarify such issues," Sihlala said.
