Buffalo City councillor, Ntombizodwa Gamnca has been expelled by the MEC for Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs, Xolile Nqatha.
In a statement, he said she had violated the Municipal Systems Act for her involvement in the sale of immovable property and her conviction in a criminal matter.
"Ms Gamnca has been removed from office for violating Item 2 (b) of schedule 1 of the Code of Conduct for Councillors of the Municipal Systems Act," he said.
He said that the Act that "a councillor must at all times act in the best interest of the municipality and in such a way that credibility and integrity of the municipality are not compromised."
MEC Nqatha said Gamnca was removed from office in terms of 14 (6)(b) of the Code of Conduct after he had considered her representations.
In 2019 Gamnca was fined R10 000 after being found guilty of robbery and intimidation. She was also accused of selling houses to local residents and not handing over the title deeds.
Her actions were also the subject of an investigation by the Public Protector.
