Buffalo City boosts fleet for better service delivery

BCM

The Buffalo City Metro has expanded its fleet to improve service delivery across key departments.

The Metro allocated R9 million to procure new vehicles, which were handed over to the Solid Waste Management, Environmental Management, and Municipal Health Services departments on Tuesday.

City Spokesperson, Samkelo Ngwenya, said the new fleet includes four trucks and 13 bakkies to support waste collection, bush clearing, and health inspections.

Ngwenya said these departments play a crucial role in keeping the city clean, safe, and environmentally sustainable, and the investment will enhance efficiency in delivering essential services to residents.

The newly acquired fleet includes:

- Three four-ton trucks and five bakkies for bush clearing and waste disposal.

- Six bakkies and a one-ton truck for solid waste management.

- Two bakkies for food safety inspections in local businesses.

Beyond the handover, Ngwenya said the Metro has taken proactive steps to ensure responsible fleet management.

“The Metro has cautioned custodians of these vehicles about good handling, cautious driving, and the importance of maintenance.”

He said drivers were also trained on the responsible handling of Council resources to extend the longevity of the assets and maximise value for money.

“We are a City that is hard at work, and service delivery remains our priority. Our commitment is to ensure residents experience tangible improvements in their daily lives.”  Ngwenya assured.

Reaffirming its dedication to creating a cleaner, healthier, and more efficient city, Ngwenya said the Metro would implement robust controls and regularly monitor Council vehicles to ensure optimal and responsible use.

“Irresponsible utilisation and misconduct regarding these assets will be followed by consequence management."
