A Port Elizabeth magistrate has refused to accept a plea agreement that was widely speculated to see 21-year-old Brent Cunningham set free after several months at St Albans prison.
National Prosecuting Authority spokesperson, Tsepo Ndwalaza, says his assault case will now go to trial at a later date.
Cunningham is accused of severely assaulting his former girlfriend Shireen Ballan and two other people in a widely publicised case.
