Nelson Mandela Bay Deputy Executive Mayor, Mkhuseli Jack, has opened a case of theft after 15 thousand litres of water and a water pump was stolen from his office property in Newton Park this week.
Jack said thieves frequented his property stealing flowers but things escalated this week when they stole the lock securing the water tanks.
Speaking to Algoa FM News, Jack said he was shocked at how brazen the criminals were.
“They are a professional syndicate because they took the entire water and the pump,” he said.
Jack said he got the police involved fearing for the other tankers on his property.
“It’s rainwater that they stole from me and I think that they are going to come back for the other tankers that we have on the property,” he said.
"I decided to open a case at the Mount Road police station because they are professional, they did it very well and they did not leave any water leaking,” he said.
“It’s not easy to steal so much water, it’s very professional thieves who are involved in this because they are also stealing motors from houses,” he added.
Police spokesperson, Colonel Priscilla Naidu said Jack's case was the first case of its kind.
She says the value of the theft is approximately R35 000.
