A brave Motherwell shop assistant foiled an armed robbery on Thursday when he affected a citizen's arrest and disarmed one of the suspects.
Captain Andre Beetge says two suspects entered an electrical business in Mkombe Street, Ikamvelihle, around 10 am and demanded cash and vehicle keys.
The shop assistant became engaged in a struggle with the armed suspect and managed to subdue him and take the weapon.
Captain Beetge says the other suspect grabbed the vehicle keys and fled the scene in a white Ford Icon which he stole from the premises.
SAPS Ikamvelihle responded to the scene and took a 62-year-old man into custody and confiscated a 9 mm Norinco pistol and four rounds of ammunition.
Police are still searching for the white Ford Icon with registration JTD 903 EC and the remaining suspect.
