A 24-year-old man has appeared in the Graaff- Reinet Magistrate’s Court on Thursday for the alleged rape of his 41-year-old girlfriend earlier this week.
Police spokesperson, Captain Bradley Rawlinson, says the suspect is believed to have fetched the woman from her workplace in Graaf Reinet at about four o clock on Monday, before accompanying her to her home in Vrygronde.
It is believed that when they arrived home, he accused the victim of having an affair with another man and assaulted her.
Rawlinson says he returned to the residence on Tuesday evening and raped her.
The victim managed to report the incident to the police soon after and the suspect was later arrested.
He appeared on charges of rape and assault.
