Border cricket bids farewell to Laird King

Border Cricket is sad to hear of the sudden passing of Laird King who died on Friday 8 November.

Laird was a Selector for Border Cricket and Border Bears for 23 years. He was also a Selector and Manager for the SA Country Districts team, on the CSA Umpires provincial panel and was involved in matches when England, New Zealand and Pakistan played against Border Invitation teams.

Laird was very proud of his home town, Komga and attended Selborne College. Up until 2009, he was a Director of Cricket Eastern Cape (Pty) Ltd, but had also been a Director of Border Bears (Pty) Ltd., an Executive Member of Border Cricket Board, and President of the Border Cricket Umpires Association.

He had been involved with Border Cricket in various capacities for nearly 50 years.

Laird was extremely passionate and committed about his cricket and was a very level headed businessman and farmer. He always had great ambition for the game of cricket to grow, from club cricket to professional cricket and wanted everyone to excel. He was a huge asset and ambassador for Border Cricket and will be sorely missed.

Laird, leaves behind his wife Jane, three daughters and five grandchildren
