Bogus doctors arrested in Butterworth

The Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) is cautioning bogus practitioners to refrain from endangering the lives of the public by operating medical facilities whilst not registered with the Council.

The Council says in a statement that its observed a complete disregard from these unregistered practitioners who continue to masquerade as healthcare practitioners.

It says members of its Inspectorate Office in East London in conjunction with the SA Products Regulatory Authority and members of the Hawks conducted a joint operation at a medical practice in Butterworth recently.

A man from Uganda and a Congolese woman were found to be practising as medical practitioners whilst not registered with the Council.

They were both found to be in contravention of the Health Professions act. and it was further discovered that these bogus practitioners were dispensing medication without a dispensing license.

They were both arrested and detained by Butterworth police and were due to appear in the Butterworth Magistrate’s Court on Thursday.
