A 35-year-old Northern Cape man who stands accused of defrauding people out of tens of thousands of rands by impersonating an advocate and acting as their legal representative has appeared in the Douglas Magistrate’s Court.
Police spokesperson Captain Sergio Kock said that the suspect, known as Gideon Adams, posed as an advocate and defrauded several different parties of tens of thousands of rands, which he allegedly charged as attorney fees to his so-called clients.
The suspect was arrested at his home in Prieska in the Northern Cape on Monday. According to Kock, police confiscated several documents and proof of payments that allegedly implicates the suspect in this regard.
Adams appeared briefly in the Douglas Magistrates Court on Tuesday and the case was remanded to November 30 for a formal bail application.
Police asked anyone who may have fallen victim to the alleged scam to contact D/Sgt Calvin Botha on 082 301 9978.
