Police in Herold's Bay have opened up an inquest docket after the body of a 52-year-old woman was recovered at sea on Wednesday morning.
Spokesperson Sergeant Chris Spies says a preliminary investigation at this point indicates that a red Chevrolet Spark went over a cliff at Voëlklip at 9.30 pm on Tuesday night.
Police were notified and a search and rescue team was dispatched to the scene.
Spies says their diving unit, EMS, NSRI and Pathology Services worked throughout the night to recover the vehicle from the sea.
He says on Wednesday morning members saw a body on the rocks and a recovery operation was launched.
The body was airlifted from the ocean and handed over to Forensics.
The name of the deceased will only be released once her next of kin is informed.
