The body of a 10-year-old boy, who went missing with his father in the sea at Beach View in Port Elizabeth on Saturday night, has been recovered.
The NSRI said it had been informed that the body had been located and recovered from the surf on Monday, near to where he and his dad were reported to have gone missing.
Police have now opened an inquest docket into his death.
The 35-year-old man and his son went missing on Saturday after the canoe they were in capsized about half-a-kilometre off shore.
A 16-year-old relative managed to swim ashore and raise the alarm.
The canoe and fishing gear were recovered on the shoreline.
A police dive unit will continue with the search for the father.
