The identity of a woman whose naked body was found in bushes in Uitenhage on Thursday morning is still not known.
Police Spokesperson Captain Gerda Swart says the investigating officer only received one call about a missing person from PE, but it was not the victim.
A community member made the gruesome discovery shortly after 10 am on Thursday in the bushes near Ross Gradwell Street.
Swart says the standard police procedures will now continue in order to identify the deceased.
She says the victim had multiple scratch marks on her body, indicating that she had been dragged through the bushes.
Police estimate that she had been dead for no more than one or two days.
Swart says the exact cause of death will be determined by a post mortem.
Anybody who might be looking for a missing female relative is kindly requested to contact the police.
The investigating officer is Detective Warrant Officer Deon Roos who can be reached on 079 896 8148
