The National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI) recovered the body of a 20-year-old man who drowned in Sedgefield on Saturday.
Spokesperson Craig Lambinon says early Saturday evening, their Wilderness duty crew was activated following reports of a drowning in progress at Sedgefield, between Myoli Beach and the Swartvlei River Mouth.
He says a man was caught in rip currents and disappeared underwater.
An extensive search continued throughout the weekend until police divers discovered his body on Monday.
The man, who is from the Eastern Cape, must still formally be identified. His body is in the care of state pathologists.
An inquest docket was opened.
