Police divers have retrieved the bodies of two boys who drowned in the Swartkops River.
They drowned in the river on Sunday afternoon.
Captain Gerda Swart says the bodies of 11-year-old Jerome Cowie and 12-year-old Corne' Boesak were recovered on Tuesday.
She said they were part of a group of six youths who went for a swim and while attempting to cross the river two of the children got tired while in the middle of the river.
"One of the boys returned to help them get across and while assisting, both boys went under the water and disappeared," she said.
Captain Swart said the group left the river and only after the parents started inquiring about the whereabouts of the two missing boys, were they informed by the other children as to what had happened.
She said police were only informed of the missing youngsters on Monday night and had to wait for daylight on Tuesday morning to commence with the search.
Police have opened an inquest docket.
Captain Swart said police are urging parents to ensure that there is always adult supervision at all times when children go to rivers to swim, as in most of these cases the victims cannot swim properly.
