Former Tennis champion Bob Hewitt is back in the Pretoria High Court on Friday, where his defence team is making its submissions for leave to appeal his 6 year jail sentence for rape and sexual assault.
The 75-year-old Addo resident was sentenced to an effective six years in jail on the 18th of May for raping and sexually abusing three teenage girls who were tennis students of his more than 30 years ago.
When sentence was handed down, the Director of Women and Men Against Child Abuse, Miranda Friedman, described Hewitt as a convicted and sentenced child rapist who had shown no remorse.
Hewitt's counsel submitted on Friday morning that the State had not proved its case beyond a reasonable doubt and that another court would come to a different conclusion.
