Boardwalk retail development back on track

The redevelopment of the retail complex at the Boardwalk Casino in Port Elizabeth is back on track.

That's according to Engineering News, which reported this week that the Flanagan & Gerard Group and Moolman Group have signed an agreement with Emfuleni Resorts, to extend and upgrade the retail area at the Boardwalk in Summerstrand.

The R600m mall redevelopment project will "more than double the retail space in the Boardwalk Precinct."

Sun International CEO Anthony Leeming, told the online publication that when the development is complete, the new and expanded mall will complement the Boardwalk’s other leisure offerings and further serve the needs of surrounding communities.

"We view the new mall to be an essential component of the broader Boardwalk Precinct, which was identified and earmarked by the Nelson Mandela Bay Metro as an important growth node," he said.

Leeming said that they were confident that the new development will accelerate Nelson Mandela Bay metro’s economic growth, job creation and increased returns to the province.

Boardwalk General Manager, Mike van Vuuren, told Algoa FM News that they were happy that the mall project was back on track.

"It's going to be a much-needed development for the precinct. We are hoping that it will bring a lot of foot-fall back to the area," he said.
