The Blue Crane Route Municipality has appealed to businesses and other donors to open their wallets in support of an Education Trust Fund.
The Municipality will unveil details of the proposed Education Trust Fund in Somerset East on Thursday, just ahead of the annual Biltong Festival which kicks off on Friday.
Acting municipal manager, Fezekile Cotani, says the fund will be used to assist those matriculants from poor communities in Somerset East, Pearston and Cookhouse to further their studies at tertiary institutions.
He says while all the details still need to be ironed out, the Blue Crane Route Municipality is hoping that Education Trust Fund will be operational by 2014.
"A lot of children who pass matric in our area do not have anywhere else to go because of a lack of fund. So, the municipality has decided to put together a fund that would assist, particularly those who are going to be writing matric at the end of this year, so that they are able to go to tertiary institutions and study further," he said.
"We are appealing for collective support by all stakeholders to make a contribution to this valuable cause," said Cotani.
