Plans for the 22nd annual Splash festival are on track, with a couple of positive changes on the cards.
The Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality said at the launch on Tuesday that R3.5 million had been located to the 4-day event over the Easter weekend.
Eastern Cape Executive Director for Arts and Culture, Noxolo Nqwazi announced that Cell C came on board as an official sponsor.
Nqwazi said the event would benefit the local economy with about 200 SMME's who have already booked stalls on the site venue at Hobie Beach, visitors from outside the city who have booked accommodation and a balance of local and national artists also participating.
She also added that an International wrestling match will put the City on the map, with wrestlers from India, Canada, the United States and Nigeria competing.
" This year we are doing better, all of those countries are sending TV stations to cover the wrestling match so we are excited it.It is growing and it remains to be seen what will happen in the next financial year" she said.
The Nelson Mandela Bay Executive Mayor, Danny Jordaan said the festival will be a combination of sports, entertianment , arts and culture.
He said the Splash Festival was the ideal platform to promote talent in the metro.
"You would be amazed at the talent that we have in this metro, so there is a combination from international artists and acts, local to community. Those who never had an opportunity to go to idols will create their own idols" he said.
The fireworks display will take place on March 26 at 8 pm.
