Bhisho welcomes court agreement on post establishments

The Eastern Cape Education Department says the draft settlement agreement on the post establishments reflects their commitment to normalising education in the province.

Department spokesperson, Loyiso Pulumani, was commenting on proceedings in the Grahamstown High Court on Thursday where the Department reportedly agreed to implement the 2012 post establishments within 3 months.

The court action was brought by the Legal Resource Centre in Grahamstown on behalf of several school governing bodies as well as NGO's.

Pulumani says while Judge Clive Plaskett reserved his judgement, the draft agreement emphasised the move away from confrontation.

"The settlement will ensure that at least there are teachers in front of all of our learners it will ensure that we restore school functionality to also reflect our commitment that we have shown when we signed the collective agreement with unions on the 13th of June, we are moving away from confrontation while emphasizing dialogue so that at least we can focus more on ensuring that we restore school functionality throughout the province" Pulumani said
