Bhisho continues support for families of EC crash victims

The Eastern Cape government said it would continue to provide support to the families of the victims of this week's horror bus accident near Centane which claimed 25 lives.

Premier Lubabalo Mabuyane established an Inter-Ministerial Committee to also coordinate emergency support for the more than 60 passengers when the bus plunged more than 200 metres down an embankment on Monday morning.

He said the Committee coordinating the provision of various services, that included counselling, forensic, pathology and emergency medical services, to the families.

The Premier said this intervention also included services from the Road Accident Fund, Home Affairs as well as a mobile police station to assist the grieving families.

Mabuyane said the majority of the people who died in the accident were elderly pensioners, young children earning grants and some were not employed.

The Premier said they were talking to the families to "consider a mass memorial service or a mass funeral service" for the deceased.
