Belgian tourist drowns in kloofing accident in Natures Valley

A Belgian tourist has drowned after being swept down the Salt River at the Craggs near Nature's Valley along the Garden Route.

The tragic accident occurred on Thursday during a kloofing expedition.

NSRI spokesperson, Craig Lambinon, says the NSRI Plettenberg Bay duty crew were activated after they were alerted by Plettenberg Bay Mountain Rescue.

He says four tourists and two guides were in the group and while in the process of escaping from the flood one man, a 29 year old from Belgium, was swept away and was missing and the alarm was immediately raised.

During the search the body of the man was located downstream.

Lambinon told Algoa FM News that a massive search for the man was conducted by the NSRI, police, Mountain Rescue, MedLife ambulance services and the Red Cross AMS Skymed rescue helicopter.
