BCM water outages blamed on loadshedding

Ongoing loadshedding is taking its toll on Amatola Water Board infrastructure, with pumping hours reduced by between six to nine hours a day.

Buffalo City Municipality (BCM) says the Water Board has indicated that the current severe stages of loadshedding are affecting water pumps, with the situation in the provincial capital, Bhisho facing a prolonged water outage and possibly in Mdantsane.

BCM spokesperson, Samnkelo Ngwenya, says other areas that are still affected by intermittent water supply are Sweetwaters, parts of Ginsberg, Phola Park, as well as Dimbaza and surrounding rural areas.

He says the Metro is assisting with tankers in the affected areas as an emergency intervention.

BCM hopes to have the water pump repaired by Wednesday.

Residents around Mdantsane are also advised that zone 12-18, Bufferstrip and Potsdam Unit P are also going to start experiencing intermittent water supply due to the prolonged loadshedding.
