A 28-year-old man drowned at Kidd’s Beach in East London, bringing to two the number of drownings in the Metro since the start of December.
Municipality spokesperson, Samnkelo Ngwenya, said the body of the man was recovered from a tidal pool late on Thursday afternoon.
He has appealed to bathers to only swim at beaches during the stipulated times when lifeguards are on duty.
"Buffalo City Metro had also increased the number of lifeguards from 19 to 40," he said.
Ngwenya said that municipal lifeguards are on duty between 7 am and 6 pm at Gonubie, Bonza Bay, Nahoon and Eastern beaches as well as at the OrientComplex and Waterworld Complex and Tidal Pool.
