A Gqeberha woman, charged with defrauding Eskom of more than R11 million appeared in the Commercial Crimes Court on Friday where she was granted bail of R 2 000.
Forty-four-year-old Lizel Quanson Wolmarans was employed as a Senior Billing Clerk at Eskom when she allegedly created false readings for various clients by under-billing customers.
The alleged fraud took place between 2016 and 2020.
It was the accused's duty to ensure that customers from Gqeberha, Joubertina, Humansdorp, Kariega and Kirkwood areas were billed correctly.
The State further alleges that Wolmarans manipulated meter readings to reflect that the customer's electricity consumption was lower than originally reported by the meter reader.The accused is expected back in court on the 30th of August.
