The heavy rain and lightning storm that hit Nelson Mandela Bay on Tuesday has claimed the life of a 17-year-old teenager from Motherwell.
Police spokesperson, Captain Andre Beetge, says it is believed that Athenkosi Nofeliti, was on his way home from soccer practice when he was struck by lightning.
Beetge says the lightning struck him as he was walking across an open area close to Sisulu Street in NU29.
The 17-year-old died on the scene and Motherwell police have opened an inquest docket.
