Parents of learners at Papenkuil Primary School in Gqeberha have taken to the streets again, in protest against the Eastern Cape Department of Education.
The group blocked off Bell Road in Gelvandale and Standford road last week.
A concerned parent of two learners says the protest is regarding a teacher who has been absent for most days of the year and as a result, Grade 6 learners are falling behind on the school syllabus.
He says the teacher has only been at school for seven days this year and this matter has been reported to the department several times with no action taken from their side.
However, Department spokesperson Mali Mtima says the teacher has now been charged with misconduct.
Mtima says the Department is fully aware of the situation and they are finalising the process of appointing a substitute teacher.
