Police in Nelson Mandela Bay have opened an inquest docket following the death of five people in a fire that gutted their family home in the early hours of Wednesday morning.
Captain Sandra Janse Van Rensburg said Algoa Park SAPS responded at around 00:30 to a report of a house on fire on Jack Street in Missionvale.
She said on arrival, the house was well alight.
Janse Van Rensburg said after the blaze was extinguished, the bodies of two adults and three children were found.
"The cause of the fire is unknown at the moment, but the investigation is underway.
"No foul play is suspected," she said.
The names of the deceased have not yet been released.
