A man from Gqeberha who allegedly scammed vehicle owners with promises to repair their cars, never to return them, has been arrested.
Police Spokesperson Colonel Priscilla Naidu says 27-year-old Abdul Yusuf managed to evade his arrest for almost seven months but was finally nabbed at a business in Green Street, North End last week.
She says between June and December of 2022, two BMWs and a Ford Focus were given to Yusuf to repair, and to date, the BMWs remain missing while the Ford Focus was recovered in Wells Estate on Sunday.
Police believe there could be more victims who fell prey to Yusuf's modus operandi and have asked them to come forward.
Yusuf ran his business from premises on Kabega Road in the Western Suburbs.
The suspect made two appearances in court this week where his case was remanded to the 22nd of August for formal bail proceedings.
Police are appealing to those who got scammed to make contact with the Investigating Officer attached to the Vehicle Crime Investigation Unit (VCIU) in Gqeberha.
Detective Warrant Officer (D/W/O) Kazlynnne Bezuidenhoud can be reached on 082 319 8165 or alternatively, contact D/W/O Jaco Botes on 071 671 1243.
